Dorothy Swanson-BlakerHey! I’m a student at the Clark Honors College in the University of Oregon. I’m originally from Portland, OR, but spent four years at boarding school in Massachusetts. I have been tutoring math and Spanish for five years now, and I love working with kids—especially the moment when they really truly understand something, and their eyes light up with a burst of self-confidence. In fact, I believe confidence is the most important factor in helping students become self-sufficient in problem solving; I focus on fostering comfort, joy, and self-esteem with students. Besides my math minor, I’m studying Spanish, linguistics, and general social sciences, and I love to do art, read books, tap dance, and travel. After college, I plan to teach English abroad for a few years.
I have known Gina for several years and she has helped me tremendously during high school math and beyond. I have been tutoring informally throughout the years in math, biology, and English, and am excited to delve deeper into math tutoring at MiM! In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my Shih Tzu mix, Otto, and crafting whenever I can. |
